The UK’s latest budget announcement pledges some significant investments in climate action and energy efficiency, alongside initiatives aimed at decarbonising heat and improving household energy performance. The budget allocates £3.4 billion over the next three years to help achieve this.
According to the government, £1.8bn of this money will go towards supporting fuel-poverty schemes. This includes an increase in funding for the ‘boiler upgrade scheme’.
The boiler upgrade scheme encourages owners of domestic or small non-domestic properties to replace their existing fossil fuel heating with more efficient low carbon heating systems. These include heat pumps and biomass boilers. The government increasing funding in renewable technology is a positive step forward.
