New video: Multiheat Xchanger in 360º action

CFE has partnered with 4DS Drone Services to produce a 360º video, demonstrating how the Multiheat Xchanger works in action. The dry heat-recovery system was installed by CFE at a poultry farm in Notts, England this year, as well as 6 systems in Yorkshire.


This Multiheat Xchanger heat recovery system is unique, because no water is required to clean the air filters. Instead, compressed air automatically cleans the filters. This is ideal for damper climates, as using air to clean instead of water means no excess water build-up.


CFE installed the system at the Notts farm in two poultry sheds this year. Since, the farm’s last crop saw a record performance for the whole farm, with feed conversion ratios around 1.39. Its performance was measured with an over 500 EPEF rating, which is a standout achievement levelling the farm with elite global growers. 


The farm has reported anecdotally that in the 2 new sheds with the heat recovery system installed, the birds’ weights were higher at clear out than the original houses. Bird spread was excellent throughout the crop with no need to adjust the circulation fan speeds.


Although heat energy usage in these sheds is not currently recorded, the general consensus on the farm is that the heaters run much less than the other sheds. Metering the energy usage is the next step to be able to compare and contrast the energy savings, which are estimated at 50%+.

The Multiheat XChanger uses a cross-flow system. This means that warm house air (red) ➀ and external fresh air (blue) ➁ pass through the exchanger module ➂ at the same time, but without mixing. The filter module ➃ removes dust and other particles from the warm house air before it enters the heat exchanger. The filter modules are self-cleaning - compressed air is blown through the filters automatically when needed. The external fresh air is also filtered ➄ to ensure it is clean before entering the heat exchanger. The exchanger module is made of durable coated aluminium and is ammonia and CO2 resistant, and it can achieve an efficiency level of up to 85%. The warmed fresh air (orange) ➅, now clean and containing more oxygen, flows directly into the house, and the exhaust air (purple) ➆ exits to the outside via the exhaust chimney.


The diagram offers a holistic view of the Multiheat Xchanger, including air sources and the Xchanger component all in one place. While the diagram is useful in explaining how the system works, it’s harder to imagine how the system will appear when installed on a shed. Our aim with the 360º video is to better demonstrate how the Multiheat Xchanger heat recovery system is installed and operates to benefit your farm's efficiency.
